Inspiration

COLE PORTER

One of my biggest inspirations in the creative world is Cole Porter. His witty lyrics and amazing scores inspire me constantly. I would love to know how he wrote his music and what he though of his life. I'd ask him his opinion on some of the more modern "superstar musicals" (Wicked, Avenue Q, Phantom of the Opera) and what he thinks makes musical theatre. The perfect upbeat satire in some of his music creates such witty and smart music. The musicals he wrote leak so much into my work, from the Naval theme from Anything Goes to the idealistic portrayals of romantic relationships that helped inspire the overarching color scheme and the motifs of the pink budding flower and the hopeful romanticism of broad curving lines.
